Arab, Latin American countries aspire to incept fruitful cooperation, officials
Regional-Latin America, Politics, 3/25/2005

Arab and Latin American countries aspire to incept a fruitful cooperation and a sustainable coordination so as to preserve their mutual interests, said several senior officials of the two regions participating here in the preparatory ministerial meeting of the Arab-Latin American summit to open next May 10 in Brasilia.

The two regions countries are keen on intensifying and diversifying their economic and political relations to develop and secure the well-being of their peoples, said the officials taking the floor at the expert meeting held prior to the two-day ministerial meeting to open today in the Moroccan Southern Town of Marrakech.

The experts highlighted the need to enhance cultural cooperation and encourage their private sectors to get involved in the implementation of cultural projects. They pointed out culture can play an important role to bring the peoples of the Arab world and Latin America closer.

The expert meeting underscored the role played by Morocco in the rapprochement of the peoples of these two regions, adding that owing to the location of Morocco, the North African country has always been a bridge between the North and the South, the East and the West.

Foreign ministers of the 34 countries participating in the summit preparatory meeting are to consider at their Friday meeting the finale declaration draft of the Brasilia Summit.

The declaration deals with means to enhance cooperation between the two regions in economic, political, cultural and social fields.

The Brasilia Summit was initiated by President Lula Da Silva as part of the overture and diversification policy of Latin American countries.
