Israel appoints an ambassador to Egypt
Egypt-Israel, Politics, 3/24/2005
The Israeli foreign ministry announced appointing the diplomat Shalom Cohen as Israel's ambassador in Egypt to replace the former ambassador Elie Shaked.
Israel had kept its ambassador in Egypt in the four past years despite that both Jordan and Egypt withdrew their ambassadors from Tel Aviv after the eruption of the Palestinian Intifada in 2000.
Cohen ( 50 year old) speaks Arabic fluently. He occupied the post of the Israeli representation office in Tunisia since 1996 until 2000. Since that time, Cohen served as a high ranking official at the Israeli foreign ministry and he had tackled several issues concerning the Middle East.
Egypt returned back its ambassador to Israel last week.
