Zapatero supports President al-Assad's decision on withdrawal from Lebanon

Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero underlined support to President Bashar al-Assad's decision for the Syrian troops withdrawal from Lebanon in line with al-Taif Accord and the UN resolution 1559.
In his address to the Arab summit Tuesday, Zapatero said his country wants to invigorate the Arab peace initiative and supports the establishment of a Palestinian independent state, adding "We have to support the Palestinian people to achieve a just peace with Israel."
