Annan: UN supports peace in the Middle East

U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan underlined on Wednesday the UN support to the Mideast peace process to achieve just and comprehensive peace on all tracks by implementing UN relevant resolutions and putting into force the Road Map.

In a word at the Arab summit, Annan announced his backing to President Bashar al-Assad commitment to pullout the Syrian forces from Lebanon in application of the UN Security council resolution 1559.

Over the situation in the Palestinian territories, Annan pointed out to the daily difficulties from one side namely land confiscation, settlement enlargement and Palestinians rage over the separation wall and their willingness to set free all detainees in Israeli jails.

Regarding Iraq, Annan declared the UN adherence to back Iraq during the interim period and the UN sought to keep and restore Iraq's sovereignty and work to normalize Iraq's ties with neighboring countries and with the international community.

With respect to the report presented by Annan to the UN to reform the international system, he said it calls to exert collaborated efforts to develop and fulfill its aims noting to the need to a security system that meets everyone's needs.

Annan called the world countries to disarm weapons of mass destruction and develop collective and common efforts to make peace.

He also called to agree over terror definition and fight it rejecting the force use by a state against another and underlined the need to use peaceful means to solve conflicts and problems.
