Kuwaiti papers underline Syria's sacrifices for Lebanon
Syria-Lebanon, Politics, 3/21/2005

Kuwaiti daily of 'al-Qabas' underlined Sunday that sacrifices made by Syria for Lebanon has ended the civil war in the country and protected the Lebanese people from being torn apart.

"Settling the situation in Lebanon, which was due to Syria, led to a process of building and growing up of freedom, democracy and spirit of the resistance which was able to defeat the Israeli enemy and force it to pull out of the south Lebanon," the paper added.

The daily criticized in an article the US "double-standard and selective policy" towards the implementation of the international resolutions.

"The US administration pays no heed to the other people's perspectives on the contrary it always seeks to marginalize their roles," the paper said.

Al-Qabas also touched upon the US permanent endeavors to transform the international organization (UN) into a means that serves its interests.

"The US-Israeli frantic campaign for the implementation of the UN 1559 resolution doesn't aim at defending Lebanon's freedom or supporting the international resolutions, but its main aim is to realize strategic purposes put by the neo-conservatives" it added.

The paper criticized the campaign noting that it is targeting the stability in the Arab region by creating sedition in order to tear the region and form a new Middle East in accordance with the US-Israeli interests.

For its part, al-Rayi al-Aam daily assured that security and construction process's success in Lebanon is due to an atmosphere of stability and civil peace ensured by the Taif accord which Syria and Lebanon shouldered the responsibility of implementing it several years ago.
