Riyadh denies mediation with Tripoli, resort to judiciary
Saudi Arabia-Libya, Politics, 3/19/2005

Riyadh confirmed on Friday it resorts to the judiciary over allegations on a Libyan conspiracy to assassinate the Saudi crown prince Abdullah Ibn Abdul Aziz, denying information to have had achieved results out of a mediation with Tripoli to this end.

One Saudi official source told the Saudi news agency that the information which said that there is mediation "achieved its objective" is groundless, stressing that facts will be disclosed over documents on the conspiracy and the special investigations, as soon as possible.

On Sunday, the Saudi minister of the interior Prince Nayef Bin Abdul Aziz announced that judicial investigations is about to be completed, stressing that his country will resort to judiciary as a reference.

Saudi Arabia's stand came after statements quoted by the media quoting the Egyptian foreign minister Ahmad Abu al-Gheit as saying that the Egyptian mediation efforts resulted in achieving set objectives and that a detente took place in the position between Saudi Arabia and Libya.

These developments came few days before the convening of the Arab Summit on March 22 and 23 in Algeria to rule out any possibility for reconciliation between the two states, following the initiative by the Arab League chief Amr Moussa and Egypt to reduce the pace of tension between the two states.
