Sudanese restrictions on the movement of American diplomats
Sudan-USA, Politics, 3/18/2005

In a new indicator in the tense relations between Washington and Khartoum, the Sudanese government decided to impose restrictions on the moves of American diplomats in retaliation to similar measures carried out by the USA.

The Sudanese foreign minister Mustafa Othman Ismael said on Thursday evening that the American diplomats have to get a prior consent to move in an area beyond 25 Km from the Presidential palace in Khartoum.

A high ranking Sudanese official accused by the beginning of March the American consulate of carrying out what he described activities against the Sudanese regime. Washington proposed to the UN a resolution to freeze the assets of human rights violators in Darfur to the east of Sudan and banning them from travel.
