Qathafi proposed compensations for Mousa al-Sader family
Libya-Lebanon, Politics, 3/18/2005
The family of the Shiite leader Mousa al-Sader said that the Libyan leader Muammar al-Qathafi proposed financial compensations for closing the file of the disappearance of al-Sader 26 years ago during his visit to Libya.
Sader Eddine al-Sader, the oldest son of Imam Mousa said that the family refused the compensation which he did not mention its value. He indicated he seeks the know the what had happened before any thing else, and to release the Imam and his friends, as well as to try officials responsible for his disappearance.
Qathafi and other officials did not attend recently a hearing session in Beirut ignoring a judicial order to investigate in the disappearance of al-Sader in 1978 and two of his escorts.
This case and the question of compensation constitute the latest developments of the puzzle which has angered for more than 25 years the Lebanese Shiite in Lebanon and reflected on the relations between the two states.
Shiite politicians and scholars blame the Libyan leader for the question of al-Sader disappearance and assert that he is still in the Libyan jails.
For its part, Libya stresses that al-Sader had left its lands by air to Rome, Italy, after a short visit. It expected that he was the victim of inter- Shiite forces conflict.
