Palestinian groups vow to ease down in return to Israel's commitment
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 3/18/2005
In conclusion of its dialogue in Cairo, the Palestinian groups agreed to an open ease down with Israel without a time frame, but the resistance groups confirmed the truce is linked to the extent of the Israeli commitment to this peace.
The declaration read by the dialogue conference said that the participants in the meeting agreed to abide by the current atmosphere of easing down for a reciprocated Israeli halt to all forms of aggressions as well as releasing the prisoners.
The spokesman for the Islamic Jihad movement Anwar Abu Taha said that the final formula does not specify a certain time but the easing down is based on Israel's commitment.
The official in the Palestine national liberation front ( Fatah) Muhammad al-Hourani said that the groups also agreed to form a committee including secretaries of the Palestinian groups and members of the PLO executive committee and chairman of the organization and independent figures.
Both Hamas and the Islamic Jihad movement linked the commitment to the joint truce to their participatation in decision making. Al-Jihad called for forming a preliminary committee to discuss the establishment of a Palestinian higher national reference in order to ensure the participation of all Palestinian groups in decision making.
The secretary of the Fatah movement Marwan al-Barghouthi extended an appeal from his prison in Israel to the national dialogue conference calling for clinging to the option of the Palestinian Intifada alongside with continued peace process.
In the statement, which was issued by the people's campaign for supporting his release, Barghouthi called for clinging to national principles in order to establish the independent state and end occupation and settlement.
Barghouthi also called for clinging to national rights for the establishment of the independent state and ending the occupation and settlements.
Barghouthi also called for reformulating the PLO establishments and electing a new executive committee before the end of the year and welcomed the decision taken by Hamas to take part in the legislative elections and described it as historical decision.
For his part, the secretary general of the People's Front For the Liberation of Palestine, Ahmad Saadat, sent a message from his jail in which he demanded leaders of the opposition groups who take part in Cairo meeting not to sign any truce agreement with Israel before reaching a clear formula on means of releasing him and his friends from the occupation jails.
