Mubarak reviews with Abu Mazen progress of inter-Palestinian dialogue

Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak yesterday received Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas who is currently taking part in the inter-Palestinian dialogue hosted by Cairo.

The meeting was attended on the Egyptian side by Minister Omar Suleiman and on the Palestinian side by Zohdy Al Qedrah.

Following the meeting, Ambassador Suleiman Awwad, the Presidential spokesman said talks between Presidents Mubarak and Abu Mazen tackled the positions in the occupied Palestinian territories, progress of inter-Palestinian dialogue in Cairo, and the implementation of Sharm El Sheikh understandings.

He said Egypt stresses the importance of accelerating the implementation of the understandings reached at Sharm El Sheikh by the Palestinian and Israeli sides, indicating that some commitments and understandings have not yet been reached.

Ambassador Awwad said Egypt believes that the two sides should fulfill their obligations in good faith adding that Egypt's role is not restricted to convening a conference but also extends to following up the implementation of those agreements in good will.

The spokesman said the Palestinian dialogue represents an Egyptian participation in order to shore up the cooling off period, to rearrange the Palestinian home from inside and to crystallize a unified Palestinian stance that confirms the existence of a Palestinian partner who is capable of positively contributing to enhancing the peace process until the Palestinian state is set up.
