Hizbullah party rejects Bush's call to drop arms
Lebanon-USA, Politics, 3/17/2005
The Lebanese Hizbullah party announced cling to resistance, rejecting thereby the call advocated by the US President George W. Bush to give up its weapons.
Its secretary general Sheikh Hassan Nasrullah said that the party will cling to its weapons to deter any likely Israeli attack. He stressed that the "weapons of the Lebanese resistance, the authority and the army are the best for the protection of Lebanon and deterring any likely Israeli aggression." On Tuesday during his meeting with the Jordanian king in Washington, the US president called on Hizbullah party to prove it is not a "terrorist organization" by dropping its weapons and not threatening peace between Israel and the Palestinians.
Observers considered that this call is a sort of an indication from Washington not to oppose the party's role in politics in Lebanon if it decided to convert into political activities, only.
