A new Iraqi government to be formed within two weeks
Iraq, Politics, 3/17/2005

Chairman of the al-Dawa ( call) party said that the two next weeks will witness the birth of a new government denying that the Kurdish- Shiite talks to this effect have reached a deadlock.

Ibrahim al-Jaafari explained following the inauguration of the first session of the Interim national assembly (parliament) in Baghdad explained that the two Shiite and Kurdish sides agreed to solve impeding issues like the status of Karkouk city according to the state's administration law.

Earlier, the foreign minister in the expired government Hoshia Zebari said that the election of the president and the chairman of the society and members of the next government will be outside the association and within what he described as a comprehensive deal.

The 275 parliament members concluded its first session without reaching an agreement between its members on forming a new government for the country. The members decided that for the time being the session will be presided over by Sheikh Dari al-Fayyad, the oldest, until a speaker for the parliament is elected.

Independent member of the national society, Jawad Smeisem, described sessions of the society as beyond expectations, noting in an interview with al-Jazeera TV to the need of resorting to open voting instead of working behind the curtains.

The society was held amid tough security conditions. The Green Zone area in Baghdad where the meeting was held came under mortars shelling bombardment which resulted in no casualties. Al-Qaida organization in Mesopotamia ( Bilad al-Rafeydeen) claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement issued on the Internet.
