Mubarak greets Egyptian women for all their achievements
Egypt, Politics, 3/16/2005
President Hosni Mubarak on Wednesday said that the achievements realized by contemporary Egyptian women crown all their struggle to regain their rights and to build themselves and their country a better life.
Addressing the opening session of the 5th National Council for Women (NCW) Conference which marks celebrations of the Egyptian Women's Day, Mubarak said that today's event brings to all Egyptians memories of the past and makes them proud of the history of Egyptian women whose noble and honorable contributions to the country's national movements can never be forgotten.
It was Egyptian women who 86 years ago in 1919 demonstrated side by side with men in protest against the exile of national leaders and in defence for the country's independence and dignity, Mubarak said.
He greeted the pioneers of the Egyptian feminist movement like Hoda Shaarawi, Nabawiya Moussa and Seiza Nabarawi and enlightened men such as Sheikh Rifaa Tahtawi, Qassem Amin and Sheikh Mohamed Abdo whose great work early in the past century helped women to emancipate and to occupy such a high place in the Egyptian society.
