Tunisian who threatened to launch attacks if Sharon visits Tunisia, detained
Tunisia-Israel, Politics, 3/16/2005

The Tunisian news agency said on Tuesday that the authorities arrested a young Tunisian and brought him before the judiciary after he had made threats on a site on the Internet to launch attacks after an invitation was extended to the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon to visit Tunisia.

The agency explained that the investigation which started about his case disclosed the real author of the statement. It considered that what was issued of threats were made by the detained, whose identity was not disclosed, and "was just a dull joke."

However, a group calling itself "The Jihadi Islamic soldiers group -- Aqba Bin Nafe' group" said in a statement "we will leave the answer to the queues of booby trapped cars and we will convert foreign embassies to ponds of blood." The statement accused members of the Sudanese government of being behind the coordination for the visit of the "criminal terrorist" Sharon.

On February 25th Sharon announced he accepted an invitation to visit Tunisia in order to take part in the second session of the world summit for the information society which is expected to be held on November 16 and 18 in Tunis.
