On the formation of the new Lebanese government
Lebanon, Politics, 3/16/2005

Several Lebanese opposition parliamentarians on Tuesday called on the Lebanese President Emil Lahoud to resign so as to avoid the country "a political and economic crisis."

Meantime, the designated Lebanese prime minister Omar Karami refused to approve the conditions set by the opposition on the formation of the new government.

Karami told journalists following the end of parliamentary consultations that he had received the opposition delegation and their demands were discussed. He said he called for a deep dialogue for their demands in order to reach common indicators.

Meantime, thousands of Lebanese in support of the Lebanese government demonstrated on Tuesday in front of the American embassy in Oker quarters in Beirut deploring what they called the American intervention in the Lebanese affairs. This demonstration came following another demonstration by the opposition on Monday.
