Morocco-Canary Islands, Business, 3/15/2005

The Spanish airlines company Binter Canarias inaugurated, in Laayoune Saturday, a new flight linking the Las Palmas airport in the Canary Islands to the Hassan I airport in the Moroccan southern city of La‰youne.

About sixty persons, including businessmen, economic actors and journalists took part in the inauguration flight that landed, Saturday morning, in Hassan I airport.

The Wali of the region of La‰youne-Boujdour-Sakia Al Hamra, Mohammed Rherrabi, said the new airline is a step forward to consolidate cooperation relations between Morocco's southern provinces and the Canary Islands.

Binter Canarias Director General, Andreas Blass, for whom the new line is the realization of a "long-cherished dream," said this inauguration "will bring together businessmen of the two countries and allow the Canary Islands to get better acquainted with the South of Morocco."
