Cairo- demonstration against Mubarak
Egypt, Politics, 3/15/2005

Demonstrators in Cairo yesterday hoisted the Egyptian flag in an opposition demonstration to the election of President Hosni Mubarak for a fifth term of office saying that they aspired the idea from the demonstrations Lebanon had witnessed and resulted in the collapse of the government.

One activist raised a flag in the demonstration in which scores of leaderships and members of the frozen "Labor" party took place in front of the parliament said "we inspired the idea from the Lebanese demonstrations despite the difference of objectives." He added "we raise the flag because the aim of demonstrating is common for all trends."

Meantime, more than 300 Egyptian lawyers observed a sit in the building of al-Areesh city court to the north of Sinai for the second running day refusing to end their sit-in. This was in protest of having two of their colleagues beaten by the Egyptian police during a demonstration on Friday when several members of families of detainees accused in the Sinai attack gathered demanding their release.

Medical reports proved that the lawyers were injured because they were beaten. The two lawyers submitted a memorandum of protest to the attorney general demanding investigations with police officers who ordered the beating.
