Regional-Spain, Politics, 3/15/2005
The International committee in defense of Al-Jazira correspondent Teiser Allouni, who is held by the Spanish authorities said that the Spanish judiciary decided to release Allouni on Monday and to keep him under house arrest in his home in Granada city.
A statement issued by the committee said that one of the conditions of the home arrest is that Allouni to be brought daily before the police center and to consult the doctor only at the permission of the judge.
The spokesman for the Arab Organization For Human Rights, Haitham Manaa, who is also the chairman of the international committee in defense of Teiser Allouni, said in a statement to al-Jazeera TV that several sides played a role in the release of Allouni, especially the government interventions in Qatar and Spain and the interventions made by Islamic and international organizations as well as the international campaign launched in support of Allouni launched by al-Jazira TV.
Manaa indicated that the international campaign in defense of Allouni is the most important campaign for journalists in the world where 7000 societies took part including a local organization in a village up to the international committee in defense of Allouni which called for giving Allouni a chance to be tried under healthy and humanitarian conditions.
Manaa, who visited Allouni in his cell two days ago, said that Allouni's health condition is very bad and that he lives on morale. He explained that Allouni was jailed in cell number 6 for criminals and Mafia members and separatists members of the Spanish Bask district and in non- humanitarian conditions.
Manaa also explained that the international committee in defense of Tieser Allouni will hold a solidarity festival in Cairo on March 24 to celebrate his release and it will invite to it the Spanish ambassador and members of the diplomatic missions, especially those sympathized with Allouni as well as organizations and unions which played a role in pressuring for Allouni's release.
