Group threatens of booby trapped cars in reaction to Sharon's visit to Tunis
Tunisia-Israel, Politics, 3/15/2005
A Tunisian group warned on the Internet the Tunisian government to retaliate by booby trapped cars if the expected visit of the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon will be made to Tunisia.
In a statement on the Internet, the group which calls itself "The Jihad Jund al-Islam ( Islam soldiers) group - Aqba Bin Nafe' contingent, which was difficult to be confirmed, dated Sunday said "we will leave the answer by the queues of booby trapped cars and will convert foreign embassies to ponds of bloods." The statement added "we will not permit his feet ( Sharon 's) to touch our lands and will not stay hand tightened and blind."
It called on the Muslim Tunisian people to challenge Sharon's visit by all available means and not to permit "criminal Sharon" to "dishonor your Arab dignity and Islamic identity." Sharon has accepted an invitation to Tunisia to take part in the second session of the world summit for information society which is presumed to be held in November in Tunisia.
Tunisia had played down the invitation saying that "the information society summit is a world summit to which all world countries are invited," and the UN is the organizing sides, according to an official Tunisian source.
The Tunisian capital witnessed on March 4th confrontations between the police and demonstrators against Sharon's visit that resulted in injuring 6 persons, according to a statement by the Tunisian opposition.
Worthy mentioning that Egypt, Jordan and Mauritania are the only Arab states which have full diplomatic relations with Israel.
