400 kg of Cannabis seized near Casablanca, authorities

The Gendarmerie Royale (rural police) seized, Friday morning in Tit Mellil (near Casablanca), 400 kg of cannabis, concealed in the rear trunk of a truck.
A press release said the truck driver, who tried to bribe the officers, was arrested and an investigation was launched to capture another three members of the network.
The Gendarmerie Royale also intercepted, on Friday during a control operation, a truck smuggling 101,000 cigarette packs worth MAD 1 million (Euro 100).
Recent official figures show that in 2004, the Port police in the northern Moroccan town of Tangier had seized 30.20 tons of marijuana during 207 operations that helped nab 277 traffickers and confiscate about 200 vehicles.
