Riyadh- Sana exchange border demarcation documents
Saudi Arabia-Yemen, Politics, 3/14/2005
Yemen and Saudi Arabia have exchanged documents on the ratification of the agreement to organize protection for joint borders. This was in conclusion of the visit carried out by the Saudi minister of the interior prince Nayef to Sanaa.
Nayef exchanged the documents with his Yemeni counterpart Lt. Gen. Rashad al-Oleimi after signing it in conclusion of talks that lasted two days. The agreement organizes the missions of the border authorities in the two states especially relating to border guards patrols.
Al-Oleimi said the two states completed demarcation of joint land borders. He added "there are still numerous missions to be completed concerning joint security and citizens issues on the border." He noted that there are "difficulties " impeding the work of committees which assume sea border demarcation on the Red Sea.
Nayef referred that demarcation of borders between Yemen and Saudi Arabia is in its "final phase." The two states completed in May 2004 their border demarcation of 1845 km, after 824 marks were installed along the borders in implementation of Jeddah treaty finalized by the two states in July 2000 and that ended 66 years of border conflicts.
