The most famous Internet prisoner in Tunisia dies

Zuheir al-Yahyawi, the most famous" Internet" prisoner in Tunisia died on Sunday from a heart attack.

Zuheir al-Yahyawi, 36 years old, was arrested on June 2002 after he had launched a cynical site on the Internet under the title "Tunisian", and the court sentenced him to two years and four months imprisonment. He was released in November 2003 following an international campaign for his support led by international organizations for human rights after he had spent 18 months in prison.

Recently al-Yahyawi took part in the preparatory meeting for the international summit for information which was hosted by Geneva and he was greatly welcomed by organizations defending Internet users and rights as well as the Reporters Sans Frontier organization.
