Book shows Moroccan soldiers' role in liberating Netherlands from Nazis
Morocco-Netherlands, Politics, 3/11/2005
"Cemeteries in a Wet Land: Freedom and Moroccan Liberators" is the title of a book that has recently appeared in the Netherlands, shedding light on the role of the Moroccan soldiers in the liberation of Holland from the Nazis during World War II.
Co-written by a Moroccan writer, Mohamed Chahboune and a Dutch writer Jan Durk Tuinier, the book, illustrated by over 200 photos, sourced information from history documents and rare testimonies of Dutch people who shared Moroccan soldiers unhappy days in the Nazis camps in the Netherlands.
Co-Published by Holland's ministry of higher education and culture and a number of institutions, the book comes to correct the assertion that Moroccan soldiers had no contribution in the liberation of the Netherlands and that only the French played a part.
Interviewed by MAP, Chahboune said the cemeteries where Moroccan soldiers are buried in the region of Utrecht, produce evidence to this truth.
