A call to protest against the emergency law in Damascus on Thursday

The Arab organization for human rights in Syria called for organizing a sit-in on Thursday in Damascus in protest of the emergency law applied in the country since 42 years.

In a statement, the organization called on all citizens to observe a sit-in in front of the palace of justice in Damascus city on Thursday ay 12: 00 boon demanding putting an end to the state of emergency and canceling special laws and courts and issuing a general pardon for all political detainees and wanted persons and releasing public freedoms.

A group of human rights activists demonstrated in March in 2004 demanding President Bashar al-Assad to end working under the emergency law. Six of them were detained for a short time. Worthy mentioning that the emergency law was imposed in Syria after the Baath party assumed power in 1963 in Syria.
