Al-Khazen and Beirut march
Lebanon, Politics, 3/10/2005

Lebanese Minister of Tourism Wade al-Khazen stressed Wednesday that Beirut witnessed a unique march yesterday where the majority of Lebanese people said with one voice "no to foreign interference and yes to Syria's al-Assad."

"Lebanon has never witnessed such a great march said al-Khazen, underlining that yesterday was a day of gratitude to Syria and rejecting Palestinian settling as well as unifying Lebanese people rallying the Taif accord."

"We went into the march yesterday to condemn the Hariri assassination and to demand uncovering of the responsible for that crime," the Minister added, calling for excluding the issue of assassination from any political discord.

Meantime, Secretary General of the Syrian-Lebanese Higher Council Nassri Khouri said that Lebanese economic circles stressed importance of public and economic cooperation with Syria and rejected bids to harm existing relationship with the neighbouring state.

In an interview published in the Syrian daily 'al-Thawra' Wednesday, Khouri asserted there was no fear on the economic relations as well as on the mutual relations, because the Lebanese people who foiled the "May 17" agreement is able to abort the conspiracy that is being plotted against Syria and Lebanon.

"Lebanese people who took part in Tuesday's Beirut rally represented reality of Lebanese feelings towards Syria which offered a lot of sacrifices for Lebanon and its independence," Khouri added.
