Israel: Shebaa farms are Syrians, Nasrullah statements are media campaigning
Syria-Israel, Politics, 3/7/2005
The spokeswoman for the Israeli foreign ministry Ameera Oroun considered that the optimism expressed by the secretary general of the Hizbullah party Hassan Nasrullah on the nearby Israeli withdrawal from Shebaa farms is "just media campaigning."
Oroun said that "these statements indicate the great pressures imposed on Hizbullah," noting that resolution 1559 "speaks of dismantling this organization and that Sheikh Nasrullah knows the pressure made on the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad."
She added that Shebaa farms "according to history and historical documents are Syrian lands and if Israel resumes peace negotiations with Syria there will be a place for negotiations from this point," noting that "we do know that Shebaa farms are not Lebanese lands. They are Syrian land and there is no reason for the existence of Hizbullah organization or what is called resisting the Israeli presence."
Replying to a question on Hizbullah party comment on Israel's withdrawal from Shebaa farms, she said "we are now on the international borders with Lebanon according to UN resolution 425 carried out by Israel sand there is no reason not to resume the negotiations or carry out peaceful negotiations with Lebanon because there are no disagreements between Israel and Lebanon."
