Kuwait, Politics, 3/7/2005

The Kuwaiti parliament is preparing to consider today in the draft law proposed by the government to accelerate the discussions of civil rights of women. This trend has attracted the focus of Kuwaiti political scene between its supporters and opposers.

The draft law which was amended in 2004 includes an amendment of article one of the elections law which dates back to 1962. It limits the right of voting and nomination to males at a time when the Kuwaiti constitution states equality between man and the woman.

Societies supporting the rights of the Kuwaiti women will organize gatherings today outside the building of the parliament at a time when the Islamic "Salafeyah" union threatened to organize gatherings against standing this law.
