Lebanese pro Syria parties meeting
Lebanon-Syria, Politics, 3/7/2005

The pro Syria Lebanese parties and political forces announced following a meeting in Beirut on Sunday rejection for the UN Security Council resolution 1559.

The secretary general of the Lebanese Hizbullah party Hassan Nasrullah said in a press conference following the meeting that the resolution is a flagrant intervention in the Lebanese affairs "and it is all free services for Israel and a reward for the Israeli crimes in Lebanon."

Nasrullah described the withdrawal of the Syrian forces to the Bekaa as a positive step in the interests of Syria and Lebanon, stressing that the presence of the Syrian forces in the Bekaa should remain sunder the rules of Taif, rather than resolution 1559, and the will of the governments of Beirut and Damascus in light of their common interests.

In this regard, the secretary general of the Hizbullah party was careful to recall that Lebanon and Syria are still in a state of war with Israel, noting that the question of withdrawal from the Bekaa might last for five years or ten years, according to the agreement between the two states.

The participants in the meeting commended, on behalf of Nasrullah, the speech of the Syrian president on Saturday, stressing that all forces taking place in the meeting, considered it a historical speech and a foundation furnishing for a new phase at the level of the future of Lebanon and Syria- Lebanese relations.

The secretary general of Hizbullah party commended Syria's government, people and especially the Syrian forces, noting that these forces had made great services in Lebanon and grave sacrifices that "should not be ignored by any nationalist." He added that sacrifices are greatly more than the mistakes committed by Syria in Lebanon, stressing rejection of any attempt to humiliate Syria.

The parties participated in the meeting rejected foreign interventions in the Lebanese affairs and Nasrullah talked, in particular, about the American and French stances.

He called also on the opposition to react to the news published by the Israeli press over that Lebanese figures had made contacts with Israel to convince Washington to escalate pressures on the Lebanese government and Damascus.

He added that these news confirm the credibility of President Bashar al-Assad's speech about a new "May 17" in remark to the peace agreement which was signed by the Lebanese government in 1983 with Israel and forces backed by Syria interfered to abrogating it.

Nasrullah called for a massive people's demonstration in Riyadh al-Solh square in Beirut on Tuesday ( tomorrow) against the foreign intervention and resolution 1559 and to demand the implementation of Taif accord. He stressed that this massive gathering marks the beginning of people's moves to be expanded later to other parts of Lebanon.

He renewed his call for comprehensive national dialogue between all Lebanese forces, rejecting the ruling out of any Lebanese force and party, stressing that this phase is the phase of internal Lebanese dialogue, rather than dialogue with Syria.

Nasrullah renewed cling to people's peace and coexistence and rejection to any attempt to violate security under any pretexts. He accused America and Israel to seek to spread chaos in Lebanon and to find out pretexts for international interventions.

He also announced that the Hizbullah party will not drop the arms and Lebanon is in need of continued resistance against Israel, expecting the withdrawal of the Israeli occupation close to the Shebaa farms to the south of Lebanon. He said that the Lebanese resistance is not a militia rather a group exerts sacrifices, so it is out of the confines of UN resolution 1559.
