American organization supports march for the liberation of Moroccans detained in Tindouf
Morocco-USA, Politics, 3/5/2005

The American Council for Moroccan POWs (ACMP) voiced support to the March 6th march to take place in Rabat to call for the liberation of the Moroccans detained in Tindouf, Southwest Algeria.

An ACMP communique voiced "full and unflinching moral support and solidarity with the participants in the Rabat rally and march," organised by the Watanouna association, and deplored "the illegal and shameful practices the Algeria-backed polisario mercenaries" inflict to the sequestrated Moroccans in the Tindouf camps.

The ACMP called on the Algerian authorities "to disband the polisario mercenaries and to close down the camps of shame in and around Tindouf to put an end to the ugly war crimes and human rights violations that are so rampant in the camps."

The council also denounced "the cold-blooded murder of helpless Moroccans" detained in the camps.

The communique added the ACMP sent a letter to the Cuban interest section in Washington to denounce the deportation of thousands of Moroccan children from the camps to Cuba to force their parents to stay in the camps of Tindouf. The council also asked president Fidel Castro to put an end to the practice and to allow the children go back to their families.

Sunday's march will be held by the Watanouna association, set up in Casablanca to sensitise the public opinion on the question of Moroccans who are sequestered in the Polisario camps.

It aims to draw the attention of the international public opinion to human rights violations committed in the camps and to denounce the exploitation of families by the Algeria-backed Polisario group.

The association has also organized a campaign to collect one million signatures of special greeting cards to be sent to international organizations, and opened a petition on its website.
