Italian regret over the wounding of freed Italian journalist
Iraq-Italy, Local, 3/5/2005

Meantime, Washington has vowed to make complete investigation over attacking the convoy of the freed Italian journalist in Iraq Juliana Sgreina by American soldiers and this resulted in injuring her and the killing of the director of operations of the Italian intelligence.

The American President George W. Bush announced regret for the incident. Spokesman for the White House Scott McClellan hoped for quick recovery for the Italian journalist.

Sgreina was exposed to fire while she was heading, escorted by the intelligence personnel to Baghdad airport, a short time after her release by an armed group that demanded the withdrawal of the Italian forces from Iraq. Sgreina was admitted to an American hospital to receive medical treatment for wounds in her left shoulder.

The attack raised regret of the US alley, the Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi who summoned the American ambassador in Rome to convey to him a message of protest over the behavior of the American army and to open investigation in the incident.

However, al-Jazeera TV showed a film for the released journalist thanking her kidnappers for the good treatment she had received.
