Negotiations continue in Iraq to agree on government
Iraq, Politics, 3/5/2005

Concerning political developments in Iraq, the Iraqi prime minister whose term of office had expired announced on Friday that the government is preparing all conditions so that the National Assembly will convene its first session shortly.

Eyad Allawi said in a press conference on Friday "we, as a government, have to prepare quickly to convene the meeting of the elected National Assembly." Concerning the talks of the United Iraqi Shiite coalition with the Kurds over supporting the candidate of the list Ibrahim al-Jafaari for the post of prime minister, member of al-Dawa party, Jawad al-Maliki, said progress was achieved in the talks.

The Iraqi lawyer Reem Taleb al-Rayes, member of the United Iraqi Coalition list who won in the general elections, stressed that the consultations between the Shiite list and the Kurdistani coalition continues in order to form the next government, noting that the issue of Karkouk constitute the basic obstacle.

These statements coincided with the announcement made by two small Shiite parties from the United Coalition that they will pull out from the coalition. The secretary general of the national coalition Ali Hashem and Abdul Karim al-Mahmadawi from the Hizbullah attributed the reason to what they called "imposition of certain views inside the coalition."
