Morocco, Senegal sign health and sea transport agreements
Morocco-Senegal, Economics, 3/4/2005
Morocco and Senegal signed in Dakar this Thursday a package of cooperation and investment agreements in the sectors of health and sea transport.
The accords were signed in a ceremony chaired by visiting King Mohammed VI and Senegalese president Abdoulaye Wade.
The two countries have concluded two agreements on health, considered as vital for social and human development, and two other sea transport accords to promote economic and trade exchanges and contribute to further bring the Moroccans and the Senegalese closer.
The sea transport accord is designed to be a new landmark in cooperation in matters of transport, security, safety and training in the field of merchant navy and sea transport. It also defines a framework for ship builders of the two countries to develop mutually-profitable partnership actions.
Under a sea convention, a concession company was set up to manage and operate the Dakar-Ziguinchor sea line by the Senegal state, the Moroccan sea navigation company (COMANAV), the Senegalese shippers council (COSEC) and the Dakar autonomous port.
Under the health agreement, Senegalese nationals will have the possibility to be treated in Moroccan hospitals while another agreement protocol seeks to consolidate health cooperation in such fields as epidemics control, information exchange and staff training.
The accords were signed as King Mohammed VI started on Wednesday a "working and friendship" visit to Senegal, last leg of a three-nation African tour that included Gabon and Burkina Faso.
