Morocco-Spain, Local, 3/4/2005
Moroccan music holds a pride of place in Spain in a series of concerts to be performed to raise funds for poor women and to renew immigrants cords with their motherland.
Moroccan popular singer Najat A‰tabou and Nass El-Ghiwan band will give two separate concerts next week along with other Spanish, Romanian and Latin American musicians.
Najat A‰tabou will perform its most famous singles on March 6 and 7 in "Femina 05" festival which gathers some soloist women in the frame of a road show that will perform also in Zaragoza.
Under the theme "women for life," the fifth edition of this festival features many women musicians notably the in-vogue Spanish band "Ojos de Brujo" (wizard eyes) and Clara Bueno whose music is accompanied with oriental dance.
They will sing on the eve of the International Women's Day on March 8. In fact, the revenue of this concert will fully go to the Women World Bank (WWB), which is an international foundation dedicated to micro-credit for poor women.
On its part, Nass El-Ghiwan, a 70's group, will give a concert for Moroccan immigrants in the frame of Madrid government's festival "Convive Madrid" (convivial Madrid).
Nass El-Ghiwan will give their first concert on March 5 in Mostoles (a neighbourhood in Madrid highly populated by Moroccans). The Moroccan band will be followed by performances of Ecuadorian, Colombian and Romanian musical bands.
