Mubarak talks with al-Faisal on settling Syria- Lebanese crisis
Egypt-Syria, Politics, 3/4/2005
Before taking part in the meeting held between Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and the Saudi crown prince in al-Riyadh, the Saudi foreign minister prince Saud al-Faisal was in Egypt, he discussed with the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak the possibility of reaching an agreement formula between the Taif agreement and the UN Security Council resolution in order to settle the Lebanese- Syria crisis.
The spokesman for the Egyptian presidency Suleiman Awad said that the Taif accord and UN resolution 1559 are leading to the same result, which is the Syrian withdrawal from Lebanon. He stressed what is important now is to alleviate pressures practiced on Syria.
Awad considered that the Egyptian and Saudi role and the relations linking the two states with Syria and Lebanon allows them carrying out an effective role to contain the current crisis.
