Islamic Shiite Council defends ties with Syria
Lebanon-Syria, Politics, 3/3/2005
Higher Islamic Shiit Council cautioned on Wednesday against any bid to target the Syrian-Lebanese ties, saying it would hurt Lebanon before Syria and damage Lebanon's interest to build a strong and consolidated ties with Syria.
In a statement following the council meeting today, it said al-Taif accord enjoys the consensus of all Lebanese, while the UN Security Council resolution 1559 is a sedition project and can not be an alternative to al-Taif. The statement underlined the need of the resistance continuity and not to disarm it before the end of the conflict with Israel, the enemy.
