In another development in Iraq, one judge, member if the special judicial commission which is in charge of trying the toppled Iraqi President Saddam Hussein and senior officials in the former regime was assassinated by gunmen.
Unidentified gunmen killed judge B. Mahmoud al-Marwani upon leaving his house in al-Azameyah quarters in Baghdad on Tuesday evening together with his son Aryan who works as a lawyer, who was also killed in the attack.
It is stated that this is the first assassination act for a judge working in the special court though senior judges were killed in recent months.
The assassination of the judge came after the special court addressed its first accusations to convicted persons saying that it has enough evidences to try five former officials in the Baath party including the "half brother" of Saddam.
The five convicted persons are Barazan Ibrahim al-Hassan al-Takriti, half brother for Saddam, former chairman for the Iraqi intelligence, Taha Yassin Ramadan, who was the deputy prime minister and three former ministers who were senior Baath party members. The trial is not expected to start before seven weeks at least.
The special court was formed in December 2003 to try members of the former regime over anti humanity crimes, war crimes and massacres and other violations.
