Patriarch Sfair: President al-Assad's statements are positive
Lebanon-Syria, Politics, 2/24/2005

Lebanese Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Sfair depicted President Bashar al-Assad's statements quoted by Amr Moussa on the implementation of the Taif agreement as positive.

"We can only see the issue as positive ... There should be dialogue with Damascus since we are neighboring countries and there are political, geographical and social ties between both countries," Sfair said in a statement broadcast by France International Radio on Tuesday.

He also pointed out that his call for the implementation of the Taif agreement doesn't mean that there will not be good relations between Syria and Lebanon.

In a statement to Lebanese newspaper of al-Safir, Sfair's visitors said "Sfair opposes the call for the Lebanese President or the cabinet's resignation and he pointed out that there are some parties who want to "push Lebanon for devastation."
