Regional-Lebanon, Politics, 2/24/2005
Saudi Ambassador in Beirut Abdullaziz Khouja on Wednesday described Syrian-Saudi relations as very strong.
"Syria and Lebanon have good relations, they cooperate according to several agreements ... we are confident that all sides had agreed that the Taif agreement is the basis and reference," Saudi Ambassador said in a statement following a meeting with Lebanese Foreign Minister Mahmoud Hammoud.
Meanwhile, Islamic Scholars' Gathering in Lebanon stressed commitment to the Taif Accord, rejecting the UN resolution 1559 as an intervention in the Lebanese internal affairs.
The Gathering, in a final statement following an extraordinary meeting, underlined the importance of adherence to resistance to confront the repeated Israeli aggressions on Lebanon.
In the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli, national organizations and parties said the Taif agreement which stabilized domestic peace in Lebanon remains the basic formula through which Lebanon can tackle all political issues.
The parties said in a statement following a meeting, that dialogue is the only means to ensure the unity of Lebanese people.
