Additional Arab pressure on Syria
Regional-Syria, Politics, 2/24/2005

The Jordanian King Abdullah 11 joined the campaign of Arab pressures to force Syria to accelerate the withdrawal of its forces from Lebanon following the atmospheres created by the assassination of the former Lebanese prime minister Rafic Hariri.

The Jordanian king said in statements in Paris that Syria has to honor the will of the international community and the UN Security Council resolution 1559 which states the withdrawal of the Syrian army, adding that the Jordanians believe that the "future of Lebanon should be put in the hands of Lebanese."

The statements of the Jordanian King who visits France coincided with the return back of the Egyptian delegate Lt. gen. Omar Suleiman from Damascus who visited it to convince the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to take a "certain step" in Lebanon in order to contain the international pressures on Damascus.

The Egyptian President urged President Bashar al-Assad to "think of doing something because the situation has become very difficult and Syria will not be able to stand before the pressures of the international community especially the USA and Europe."
