Morocco lifts some reservations on international human rights conventions

Morocco decided Monday to lift reservations on some articles of international conventions on racial discrimination and torture, which the north African country had ratified.
At a meeting of the Inter-ministerial Commission in charge of public liberties, human rights and international humanitarian law, chaired by Moroccan Premier, Driss Jettou, it was decided to lift reservations on Article 14 of the international convention on the elimination of all forms of racial discrimination, and on Articles 20 and 22 of the convention on torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.
According to a release of the Prime Minister's office, the commission also decided to lift reservations on Article 14 of the convention on children's rights and adhere to the 1st facultative protocol on civic and political rights.
The Commission will examine removing reservations on the convention concerning the elimination of all kinds of discrimination against women.
