Satterfield prepares to visit Lebanon
Lebanon-USA, Politics, 2/23/2005

The spokesman for the US Department Of State, Richard Boucher, denied news which said that the US assistant secretary of state for the Middle East affairs David Satterfield had arrived in Lebanon but said that Satterfield will leave for Lebanon before the end of the current week.

Though Boucher did not say with whom Satterfield will meet in his expected visit, but he said "he will follow up the meetings held by the US under secretary of state William Burns in Beirut one week ago, noting that the talks will deal UN resolution 1559, terrorism and the issue of assassinating the former Lebanese prime minister Rafic Hariri.

He repeated demanding Syria and Lebanon of implementing UN resolution 1559, saying that this resolution is very clear and "calls for the immediate withdrawal of all foreign forces from Lebanon."

On Syria's promises to withdraw according to what was stated by the Arab league secretary general Amr Moussa after his meeting with the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Boucher said "we will judge based on actions."
