Libya announces end to the crisis with Mauritania

The Libyan (foreign minister) Abdul Rahman Shalqam announced the end of the crisis in the relations between his country and Mauritania on the background of recent accusations against Libya of being involved in a coupe attempt against the President of Mauritania, Mu'aweya Wild Taye'.

In statements to al-Jazeera TV following his meeting with the President of Mauritania, Shalqam stressed that his country considered that this page was closed and that the two states are in the process of opening a new file in their relations in the service of the Arab Maghreb states.

The foreign minister of Mauritania, Muhammad Val Weld Bilal, said earlier that the differences between Mauritania and Libya was discussed in the course of efforts that should be exerted by all states of the Arab Maghreb federation to correct inter-Maghreb relations.

The Mauritanian minister added that his country within this confines will encourage every and each move encouraging joint Maghreb action.

The Libyan minister whose country assumes the presidency of the Arab Maghreb federation on Monday met with the President of Mauritania in the presence of the foreign ministers of Algeria, Morocco, Mauritania and Tunis in the course of the mission to revitalize the Arab Maghreb federation.

Following the meeting, Shalqam indicated the possibility of convening a summit between leaders of the Arab Maghreb on the sideline of the Arab League summit due to be held in Algeria on March 22 and 23.
