Hoss: Syrian presence in Lebanon is legitimate
Lebanon-Syria, Politics, 2/22/2005

Former Lebanese Premier Salem al-Hoss said Monday that the Syrian troops presence in Lebanon doesn't violate Lebanese sovereignty because it was based on the acceptance of Lebanese government.

"Departure of Syrian troops from Lebanon without an agreement between Syria and Lebanon will be a loss for the national interests," Hoss said in a statement.

He strongly criticized some parties who exploit the assassination of former Lebanese Premier Rafic Hariri to escalate stances against Syria.

Meanwhile, Lebanese parties and national organizations in South Lebanon said Monday the only beneficiaries from assassinating Hariri are the enemies of Lebanon.

Following a meeting in the Lebanese southern city of Sidon, the parties called on Lebanese people to preserve the country's unity and interests.
