Official: Amazigh culture part of our democratic society
Morocco, Politics, 2/21/2005
Promoting Amazigh (Berber) culture is part of our democratic society project, said, in Tiznit (South of Morocco) Saturday, Moroccan Minister of Communication and Spokesman of the Government, Mohamed Nabil Benabdallah.
Morocco is open to all society components, which represent our identity, Benabdallah told a conference themed "toward consolidating Amazigh culture in the national media."
The Ministry of Communication signed in July a partnership convention with the Royal Institute of Culture (IRCAM) to establish a joint commission that will work on integrating Amazigh in public media.
Consolidating the Amazigh printing press is "a societal necessity" due to its important role in democratising media sector, pointed out the minister, adding that his department is determined to help building a "strong and professional Amazigh media."
Under the partnership, news in Amazigh will also be broadcast by the second national TV "2M" as is the case with the other national TV "TVM."
