Saudi Arabia summons ambassador from Hungary
Saudi Arabia-Hungary, Politics, 2/21/2005
Riyadh on Sunday summoned its ambassador from Hungary after the Hungarian prime minister Verenik Georkasani described, as kidding, members of the Saudi football team as "Arab terrorists," according to a Saudi source.
A source at the Saudi foreign ministry said that the Ambassador returned back to the Kingdom for consultation "tackling not other steps that might be taken by the Kingdom."
The Hungarian mass media quoted the Hungarian prime minister as praising in a special celebration the Hungarian team in bravely fighting "against Arab terrorists" after the end of a friendly competition game between the two teams ended in negative equality on February 2nd.
The Hungarian prime minister apologized for his statements which pushed the Arab ambassadors and consuls in Budapest to convene an emergency meeting. However, the delegates said then that this matter will not damage Hungary's relations with the Arab states.
