Morocco, Gabon resolute to reinforce bilateral cooperation

Morocco and Gabon expressed Thursday determination to reinforce bilateral cooperation in industry, infrastructure, agriculture, housing, transports and telecommunications.

During a working session held in Rabat Thursday, Moroccan premier, Driss Jettou and Gabonese peer, Jean Franois Ntoutoume Emane, noted the level of economic exchanges are below potentials and the excellent political relations, said a communiquŽ of the Prime minister's office in Rabat.

The two prime ministers also reviewed the results of the sectoral meetings held by members of the Moroccan and Gabonese delegations which were assigned to examine various aspects of the two countries' cooperation.

Among the issues discussed figure water harnessing and environment protection, which will be object of an agreement to be signed later on, the redrafting of the fisheries agreement and cooperation between fisheries institutions of the two countries.

The two parties also discussed know-how sharing in forest management, the holding of businessmen meetings to prospect agriculture partnership, equipment, infrastructure and transport cooperation and the possible creation of a free zone in Port Gentil.

They also discussed issues concerning the setting up of a sea line, the privatisation of Air Gabon, the development of Liberville airport, the construction of 10,000 houses in Gabon, a program of trade missions and the promotion of exports between the two countries.

On Thursday, Gabon's Minister of State, of Housing, Town Planning and Land Registration, Jacques Adiahenot, said at a meeting with his Moroccan peer, Ahmed Toufiq Hejira, that his country aspires to benefit from the Moroccan experience in the housing sector.

Moroccan development in this sector is "surprising," he said, adding that "we will exchange our technicians and Moroccan private enterprises will contribute to housing projects in Gabon."

Hejira, who paid a visit to Gabon last August, voiced readiness to support Gabonese authorities in setting up various structures in the housing sector to fill Gabon's deficit in this domain.

The two parties decided that a Moroccan delegation of the Housing ministry and other sectors will visit Libreville at the end of March.
