Lebanon rejects international investigation of the Hariri assassination

The Lebanese prime minister Omar Karami on Friday renewed his government's rejection to opening an international investigation to the Hariri assassination.

He also rejected "the independence uprising" which was proclaimed by the Lebanese opposition. He considered this step as a coupe against the state and the authority. He warned in a statement to journalist yesterday following a meeting for the Lebanese cabinet from the consequences of violating the country's security.

On the other hand, the Lebanese defense minister Abdul Rahim Murad stressed the need of preserving national security amid conditions taking place in Lebanon. Murad called, in an interview with al-Jazeera TV, on the Hariri family to take part in the current investigations on his assassination.

Meantime, the Lebanese minister of the interior Suleiman Franjieh said that the state will not stand neutral concerning any violations of its security violated under moves that proclaim the mourning of Hariri under the slogan of "coupe against the state." In a movement which is considered a defiance to the opposition, the Lebanese government appointed a new minister of tourism in succession of the resigned minister Farid al-Khazen and nominated his relative Wade al-Khazen to the post. Al-Khazen attributed his resignation to the inability of the government to deal with the grave conditions in the country.
