Lahoud offers condolences on Hariri demise
Lebanon, Politics, 2/19/2005
The Lebanese President Emile Lhoud on Friday visited the house of the late former Lebanese prime minister Rafic Hariri where he offered condolences to his two sons. This was after he did not attend the Hariri funeral.
Lahoud's visit who did not made any statements when he left the Hariri house, came at a time when opposition groups demanded the removal of the current government which the Druz leader Walid Junblat described as "criminal and hireling." Former Lebanese Druz minister and parliamentarian Marwan Hammadeh said he telephoned the Swiss ambassador in Beirut and asked him that "his country not to permit the criminals exploiting Switzerland's position and reputation by bringing secondary experts (to investigate the explosion) so as to legitimize criminality."
On the other hand, the Lebanese Shiite clergy Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah said Israel is not innocent from the assassination because its does not want Lebanon to be stable. He explained in Friday's sermon at one of southern Beirut's suburbs that Israel wants to benefit from the political differences in Lebanon "making use of UN resolution 1559 which did not study the general situation in Lebanon as a whole."
