Appellate court acquits nine terror suspects, confirms other verdicts
Morocco, Local, 2/18/2005
The appellate court of Rabat acquitted, here Wednesday, nine suspects accused of belonging to the "Casablanca group" being prosecuted in the framework of the Anti-Terrorism Law enacted in 2003.
The court also confirmed the verdict of the Rabat Court of First Instance against 22 people belonging to the so-called "Berkane group."
It also reduced the prison sentences for 10 persons involved in anti-terrorism affairs, thus pronouncing verdicts ranging between 3 years of prison and 5000 MAD (510 US dollars).
The suspects faced charges including association with gangsters with the goal of preparing terrorist acts, non-authorized association, and holding un-authorized meetings.
