Increasing demands for an international investigation of Hariri's assassination
Lebanon, Politics, 2/18/2005

Internal Lebanese and foreign demands are increasing for an international conference over the assassination of Rafic Hariri, the last of which was the demand raised by his family, to increase efforts to disclose the criminals responsible for his assassination through an international committee.

Hariri's family issued a written statement in which it called the Arab and international community to reactivate the statement of the UN Security Council which urges the UN secretary general to give a report on the conditions of Hariri's assassination and the implications of this incident.

Members of the Hariri family vowed in the third and last day of the national mourning that the blood of the deceased and his escorts will not be in vain and they will spare no efforts to disclose those who conducted this crime regardless of their positions.

This call came at a time when international sides called for shedding light on the events of the assassination and bringing the criminals who committed the crime for trial.

France was the first side to demand an international investigation to the assassination of Hariri, hours after the operation which targeted him on Monday. On Wednesday the French President Jacque Chirac renewed the French demand upon his arrival in Beirut to offer condolences on the demise of Hariri.
